How Long Should I Wait after My Children are Born?
If you are considering aesthetic enhancement to restore your body after your children are born, there are a variety of procedures you can opt to receive in a Mommy Makeover to address a number of issues at once. But when is the right time to undergo cosmetic treatment? How long should you wait after pregnancy?
Dr. Tiffany McCormack’s two main priorities in plastic surgery are safety and effectiveness. Her top concern is that procedures, from pre-operative care to post-operative recovery are as safe as possible. Following that, she wants to ensure that the results are as natural-looking as possible, and meet your ultimate goals. To achieve that, Dr. McCormack typically recommends new mothers wait at least six months after childbirth before undergoing major surgery such as tummy tuck, breast enhancement, or liposuction. After pregnancy, the body may correct a number of imperfections naturally, or it may respond to diet and exercise regimens—in which case, surgical intervention may not be necessary. Also, a period of time needs to be allotted before breast procedures can be performed if you are, have been, or are planning to breastfeed. Dr. McCormack also advises patients that a Mommy Makeover should probably be postponed until after the birth of your last child, in order to avoid repeated surgery in the future.
Non-surgical treatments, such as facial rejuvenation and injectable fillers, can often be performed sooner after childbirth than more invasive procedures.
