Carrying a baby causes significant physical changes, most apparent in the abdominal region. The muscles in the abdomen are often pushed apart and stretched during pregnancy, making it exceptionally difficult for even the most rigorous exercise routines to retighten them. Plus, excess fat and skin left over after delivery can be very tough to get rid of. A tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) is one of the most common components of a Mommy Makeover, and also, one of the most effective. Dr. Tiffany McCormack can help address excess fat and skin and tighten the abdominal muscles for a smoother, flatter midsection.

Tummy Tuck Surgery

A full tummy tuck involves an incision made along the bikini-line from hip-to-hip. Liposuction is often combined with this procedure, but in some cases it is not necessary. Dr. McCormack will lift the abdominal skin and reposition the navel, eliminating loose extra skin and tightening the abdominal muscles. Then, the remaining skin is pulled taut and the abdominal region recontoured to provide you with a more fit, flatter waistline.

Tummy Tuck Recovery

Patients can expect to be fitted with a compression garment after surgery to help reduce swelling and support the abdomen during recovery. Drain tubes will be left in place for about a week after the procedure. Patients will be encouraged to walk around soon after surgery in order to aid the recovery process and reduce the risk of blood clots. Depending on any other procedures you may include in your Mommy Makeover, recovery from tummy tuck surgery typically takes about one to two weeks at home. Dr. McCormack will advise you not to engage in heavy lifting or strenuous activity, including exercise, for about six weeks. Some patients may experience temporary numbness, and sometimes permanent numbness in some areas can occur. There will be permanent scarring from this procedure, but it should fade to some degree with time and can be easily hidden by clothing.

After pregnancy, it is very common to experience loose, excess skin and fat in the abdomen. But with a tummy tuck, you can get rid of the excess and recontour the abdominal region for a look more in keeping with your pre-pregnancy figure.
